A glimpse at Paoay Church
Location: Paoay, Ilocos Norte
Ilocos Norte trip will not be complete if you don't include the St. Augustine Church in Paoay in your itinerary.
This baroque church is famous for being one of the Unesco Heritage Site in the Philippines since 1994 and has been declared as a National and Cultural Treasure for its architectural design.
It was built from 1699-1702 by the Augustinian father Antionio Estavillo, repaired several times before it was officially inaugurated on February 18, 1896.
A few meters away in the church is where the bell tower located. This 3-story bell tower was once served as a watch tower by the katipuneros and guerrilla during the Japanese occupation.
Due to the lack of time i didn't had a chance to explore whats inside in this church. Maybe because i focused my attention on the facade of this church which i only see in magazines and internet. But in a way im happy because this is a personal achievement for me. :)
